Mesta admitted to frequently serving a regular customer, who is a veteran.
 
The teen said he gave the man free coffee, which cost less than a dollar.
 
One night, Mesta was about to throw out two leftover tacos, valued at 99 cents, but instead gave them to the vet. The act was caught on surveillance camera.
 
After the surveillance video was reviewed, Mesta was let go. Although the company did not say the free food handout was the reason for the move, Mesta believes he was fired for his altruistic actions.
 
In a statement released by the Jack in the Box corporate office, the company stated that the decision to fire Mesta was based on previous infractions and had “nothing to do with the guest’s military experience.”
