這種寄生蟲是馬蠅（Cuterebra），其幼蟲叫虻。牠們最愛寄生在小動物，如貓、狗、兔子、松鼠的身上了。
當動物閒晃經過，馬蠅的卵會因應動物的體溫，抓到機會就附著上去。常見的季節是夏季或秋季。
一旦幼蟲孵出，牠就會從口或鼻，也可能由開放傷口，鑽進宿主體內。
幼蟲會在宿主的皮膚底層製造裂口，並在表層開一個換氣小洞。
最後，這種寄生蟲就會長到，像人類的大拇指第一節那麼大。
大約一個月後，馬蠅的虻就會鑽出宿主身體，掉在地上，並結蛹。如此又展開了新的生命循環。
有些動物傷口會發炎流膿。大部分獸醫都能以肉眼觀察傷口，做出診斷。

Vet pulls hideous bug out of kitten’s nostril
This gruesome viral video shows a vet pulling out a nasty bug that was stuck in this poor kitten’s nose.
These little creatures are called Cuterebra, and they like to make their homes in little animals like dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, etc.
When an animal wanders by, the Cuterebra’ eggs respond to the host’s body heat, and seize the chance to latch on. This is most common in summer and fall.
Once a larva hatches, it can be enter the body via the mouth or nostrils, or it may enter the body through an open wound.
The larva then creates a lesion below the host’s skin tissue, and opens a tiny breathing hole in the skin.
Eventually, the larva will grow into the size of the first joint of a person’s thumb.
A month later, the Cuterebra larva crawls out of the skin, falls to the ground and pupates. And the life cycle begins all over again.
Some lesions become infected and pus can be seen. Most veterinarians can diagnose it just by visual inspection of the lesion.
