An ex-U.S. Marine killed three cops and injured three more in a shooting in Louisiana yesterday.
Police were called to Airline Highway in Baton Rouge on Sunday morning when a caller reported a man with a gun behind a convenience store.
The shooter was reportedly armed with an AR-15 assault rifle. Police identified the attacker as 29-year-old former U.S. Marine Gavin Long.
Long killed three police officers and injured three others before he was shot dead by police.
Police appear to have been caught off-guard by Long as he took cover in a nearby car wash.
Officers exchanged fire with Long before shooting him dead.
A bomb disposal robot was then sent in to check the area for explosives.
Retired Marine sergeant Long reinvented himself as a life coach after he was honorably discharged from the military in 2010.
He recently posted a series of online rants under the pseudonym Cosmo Setepenra, urging black people to fight back against police injustices.
Long posted several videos in recent weeks discussing police shootings, including the death of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge.
The gunman travelled from his home in Kansas to Dallas earlier this month after Micah Xavier Johnson shot and killed five cops in the Texas city.
In one video, Long defended the Dallas sniper attack, describing it as justice.
Baton Rouge police named those killed on Sunday as city officers Montrell Jackson and Matthew Gerald, and Sheriff’s Deputy Brad Garafola.
