High school student Marina Lonina is facing up to 40 years in prison for single-handedly taking social media voyeurism to new depths of depravity and sadism.
On February 29, 18-year-old Lonina and her 17-year-old friend were hanging out in a parking lot outside a shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio, when they were approached by a strange man, who police have since identified as 29-year-old creep Raymond Gates.
The young girls had never met Gates before, but must have been taken by his charms.
He’s said to have bought them a bottle of vodka, while also proposing they meet up the next day.
The three rendezvoused as planned at a residential house in Columbus. The girls must have anticipated a party, but instead, the moments that followed turned out dark, frightening, and traumatic.
Reports indicate Raymond Gates grabbed Marina’s friend, pinned her down and raped her.
Rather than help her friend, Marina Lonina recorded the 10-minute sexual assault on the live-streaming app Periscope, for the world to watch in real-time.
Having seen the video, the case prosecutor claims Lonina was giggling throughout her friend’s waking nightmare, and displayed little interest in stopping the attack, as she was more excited by the amount of likes she was receiving for capturing the disgusting act as it was happening.
For her crimes, Marina Lonina faces the same charges as the alleged rapist – kidnapping, rape, sexual battery, and pandering sexual matter involving a minor.
Both defendants pled not guilty to the charges on Friday. Lonina was released on a bond of $125,000, as Raymond Gates remains incarcerated for the time being, his bond set at $300,000.
