Europeans and travelers to the continent will be on edge more than ever this week after Islamic terror attacks in Brussels, Belgium killed dozens and injured hundreds.
These scenes show the moments following the March 22 attack at the city’s Zaventem airport. Two bombs exploded here 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.
An hour later, another bomb exploded and ripped apart the Malbeek subway station in Brussels’ busy EU district.
Both blasts killed at least 34 people and injured over 250.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying more would follow.
The attacks follow Belgium’s capture of Salah Abdeslam last week, a suspect in the November attacks in Paris.
Belgium had ramped up security following what went down in Paris, but was it enough? That's a tough call.
But Reuters columnist Peter Apps perhaps sums up the threat facing Europe best when he writes that, “a bomb in a crowded place is still a bomb in a crowded place.”
How can you protect against something like that?
