It all started as a nice Christmas getaway on the Carnival Ecstasy cruise ship
for Matt Davis and his family
But it all turned into something right out of a horror movie,
when Davis and his wife went to dinner on the 10th floor of the luxury cruise ship and were greeted by the elevator door covered in blood.
Davis recorded the scene on his cell phone. He said that someone ran out of the elevator through the bloodbath, while cruise employees tried to usher passengers away.
According to a Carnival spokesperson, the victim of the accident was 66-year-old Jose Sandoval Opazo, an electrician who was working on the elevator.
After the tragic accident, the elevator was cordoned off
Carnival offered to pay for three counseling sessions for the family after the traumatic experience.
Last year, a 20-year-old passenger died on the Carnival Ecstasy after falling from the mast while watching the sunrise.
A fire in 1998 injured eight passengers and 14 crew members.
