How would you feel if Donald Trump was named Time’s “Person of the Year”?
How about ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi? (Aboo Ba-car Al-Bag-dahdi)
Well, Trump, Al-Baghdadi, and six others candidates have been announced.
Time describes the criterion for their “Person of the Year” as “the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year.”
Heck, they named Hitler “Person of the Year” in 1938 and chose Stalin the following year.
So in alphabetical order, here are the nominees:
Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, The leader of Daesh, who has inspired and orchestrated terror attacks around the globe.
The Black Lives Matter activists, who've led the fight for the civil rights of black Americans, particularly those who’ve been treated unjustly by police.
Another candidate is Caitlyn Jenner, whose coming out as a transgender woman has opened up new conversations on gender identity and LGBT rights.
Travis Kalanick, the CEO of UBER, has made a big impact on what’s known as the sharing economy.
German chancellor Angela Merkel has held down the Eurozone through tough economic times and led by example in Europe’s refugee crises.
Vladimir Putin, has made headlines this year for Russia’s military activity in Ukraine as well as their role in the fight against ISIS.
Hassan Rouhani, president of Iran, reached a nuclear deal with the West to help lift sanctions that have hurt his country’s economy.
And last up, we have Donald Trump, the loudmouth-racist Republican frontrunner who makes headlines every time he opens his mouth.
So that’s it! Who do you think will be chosen? Leave your vote in the comments.
