INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — Terrified shoppers ran screaming as a man with a gun fired several shots inside a mall, in what officials believe to be a targeted shooting incident.
Police were called to the scene Wednesday night after gunshots were heard around 6:30 p.m. at Washington Square Mall in Indianapolis.
Authorities believe the suspect entered the mall and encountered a man he knew. The two got into an argument before the suspect took out a gun and shot the man, according to the Indy Star.
Early reports described the suspect’s weapon as a shotgun or AK-47, but the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has said that the gun used was not a long rifle.
Three people — two males and one female — were wounded in the shooting and taken to the hospital. Two of the victims were reportedly bystanders. The gunman is still at large and was last seen fleeing toward Mitthoeffer Road.
The Indy Channel reports that other details of the shooting, such as a description of the suspect or how many shots were fired, have not yet been disclosed by police.
