ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO — A man has confessed to the killing of 4-year-old Lilly Garcia in an apparent road rage incident in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities tracked down the suspect, Tony Torrez, 32, after receiving tips from an anonymous caller. He was arrested near Sunset and Central Avenue on Wednesday afternoon and was found in a green and blue vehicle, which was not the vehicle involved in the shooting, KOAT reported.
The shooting took place on Tuesday afternoon after Torrez the father of the victim, 4-year-old Lilly Garcia, kept cutting each other off on westbound Interstate 40 in Albuquerque, KTLA 5 reported.
Torrez then pulled up to Garcia’s vehicle and opened fire. Lilly, who was sitting in the back seat with her 7-year-old brother, was shot in the head and died later at a hospital, according to KTLA 5.
Torrez confessed to the killing of Lilly Garcia after he was brought in for questioning. He has been charged with an open count of murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, assault with the intent to commit a violent felony, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, child abuse, child abuse resulting in death, and tampering with evidence, according to KOAT.
