Doctor：Do you work in an office? Do you spend a lot of time at a desk?

Rose：I do. I'm the vice-president of a design company. I'm usually at my desk at least 10 hours a day.

這裡的kill是誇張說法，相當於中文「讓人痛死了」。kill除「殺死」的意思，還有「停止」之意。be dressed to kill指「穿得很漂亮」；kill two birds with one stone指「一石二鳥」；kill the goose that lays the golden egg則是「殺雞取卵」。
tip可當「頂點」，也可當「小費」，還可當「建議」，相當於suggestion或advice，但tip和suggestion是可數名詞，advice則是不可數名詞。
這是非正式用法，就是「全神貫注聆聽」。下列是一些和ear相關的片語或用法︰smile from ear to ear（裂嘴大笑）；go in one ear and out the other（左耳進，右耳出）；One’s ears are burning.（感覺有人正在談論自己而覺得耳朵癢。）turn a deaf ear to...（對……充耳不聞），例：Bill turned a deaf ear to his wife’s complaints.（比爾對老婆的抱怨充耳不聞。）
