跟男性朋友約會，可以對別人說：I'm dating him。Date指「約會」，男女朋友或普通朋友之間的約會都可泛稱date。想邀請別人做你的派對舞伴，可以禮貌地問句：Would you be my date for the party?（你可以做我的舞伴嗎？）如果兩對情侶一起約會，就是Double date。跟素未謀面的人約會如相親，則可稱為Blind date。若這約會很糟，可以形容為A date from hell (自地獄的約會)，相信那滋味一定不好受。
Katie:Hey Lisa, do you remember Gordon from school?
凱蒂:嗨，莉莎，你還記得學校的戈登嗎？
Lisa:Of course. Why?
莉莎:當然記得，為甚麼這麼問？
Katie:I was thinking about him the other day. I bet he's fat and married with three kids now. He was such a flirt.

凱蒂談到舊同學戈登：I was thinking about him the other day. He was such a flirt。那the other day是甚麼意思？
The other day直譯是「那另一天」，其實卻沒有說明是哪一天，只是「最近某一天」的意思，可譯做「日前」，有時用在only之後，有「日前才……」含義，例如：What? He's dead? I saw him only the other day, and he was alive and kicking（甚麼？他死了？我日前才見過他，還是生龍活虎的）。你還可以說the other night（最近一個晚上）、the other week（一兩個星期之前）等。
I was thinking about him the other day是說「我日前想到他」。留意think字，在這裡用了進行式(continuous tense) ，一般而言，think翻作「認為」時，不用進行式；當作「想」或「考慮」的時候，則常用進行式。請比較以下兩句：(1) I think we should emigrate to New Zealand（我認為我們應該移居紐西蘭）。(2) I am thinking of / about emigrating to New Zealand（我正在考慮移居紐西蘭）的事。要說「我經常想到你」或「我近來常常想到你」，英文是I am always thinking about/of you或I have been thinking about/of you recently。
凱蒂說，戈登當年喜歡跟異性打情罵俏(He was such a flirt)。Flirt作動詞，指「挑逗異性」或「調情」；作名詞，則是指「喜歡挑逗異性者」，例如：(1) She flirts with every man she meets（她見到任何男人都要挑逗）。(2) That little flirt winked at him（那個喜歡賣弄風騷的小妞兒向他使眼色）。
